ABOUT THE BRIDGE CHURCH, RENO
The Bridge Church is a community of believers who are passionate about practicing the way of Jesus. What does that mean, the word community? We believe that together in fellowship we grow closer to God and one another. The Bible speaks about iron sharpening iron. We believe that together we grow stronger.
The Bridge Church strives to be a church without walls. Jesus calls for us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken. It is there that the lost will be found. The Bridge Church makes an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts, to see our city changed.
The Bridge Church highly values our relationships with one another. We look to grow through fellowship, and ultimately growing closer to God. We value the word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.
WHO WE ARE
OUR PURPOSE
In the heart of God's Word, Jesus gives us the blueprint for His church—His eternal purposes laid out in two commands: the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). These two passages reveal the five purposes that must define our lives as followers of Christ: worship, discipleship, evangelism,
ministry, and fellowship. At The Bridge, we believe that to shine as brightly as we can for Jesus , we must commit ourselves to these divine purposes. The Christian life isn’t a marathon—it’s a pentathlon. We don't win the race by excelling in just one area; we only fulfill our calling when we succeed at all five. So at the Bridge Church, we are laser-focused on BOWING our hearts to God (worship), BEARING each other's burdens (ministry), BRINGING the lost to Christ (evangelism), BUILDING up fellow believers (fellowship), and
BECOMING more like Jesus (discipleship). These five purposes serve as our compass, guiding us as we step into the future God has prepared for us.
OUR MISSION
Imagine this: a single beam of light shining through the night—small, yet potent, enough to light a room. But now, focus that light. It becomes a flashlight, cutting through the darkness and guiding the way. Focus it more, and it’s a fire-starter, igniting passion and warmth. Focus it even further, and it becomes a laser—powerful enough to cut through steel. Now, think about that light representing the mission of The Bridge Church. For over 150 years, we’ve been a shining light in the city of Reno and beyond, serving our community, feeding the hungry, discipling the next generation, and spreading the hope of Jesus. But we’re not done. In fact, the best is yet to come. We’re just getting started!
Over the next three years, God is calling us to SHINE more brightly than ever before, with laser-sharp focus on Christ’s eternal purposes for our lives and our church. This is more than a plan—it’s a divine mission to bring Jesus into sharper focus in our hearts, our homes, and our city.
As we worship, disciple, evangelize, fellowship, and minister with renewed intensity, the light we carry will grow even more powerful, lighting the way for the lost, igniting passion for Christ, and cutting through the darkness with a brilliance that can only come from Him. We are going to shine like stars in the sky (Philippians 2:15), illuminating the city of Reno with the love of Jesus as never before.
This is your moment. Our moment. It's time to step into the light.
It’s time for you to shine.
OUR VALUES
Our B.R.I.D.G.E. C.H.U.R.C.H. Values define how we carry out our purpose, mission, and vision. While these values may not always be spoken or promoted, they are intentionally woven into the life of our church and are felt and experienced by everyone who interacts with The Bridge Church.
BIBLICAL AUTHORITY
We believe God's Word is the foundation for our lives and faith. We strive to live out its truths in every aspect of our lives.
RADICAL GENEROSITY
Generosity is our privilege. We give up things we love for things we love even more, recognizing it’s an honor to sacrifice for Christ and His church.
INTENTIONAL DISCIPLESHIP
We are spiritual contributors, not spiritual consumers. The church does not exist for us. We are the church, and we exist for the world.
DOABLE FAITH IN ACTION
We will take practical, faith-filled steps to live out God’s truth in our daily lives, making it accessible and transformative for everyone.
GLOBAL AND LOCAL OUTREACH
We will do anything short of sin to reach people who don’t know Christ. We innovate and take risks to reach people no one else is reaching.
ENGAGING WORSHIP
We praise passionately in worship, recognizing that encountering God transforms us and compels us to live for Him.
COMMUNITY WITH AUTHENTICITY
We build genuine relationships and foster joy in serving, laughing, celebrating, and loving one another deeply as the body of Christ.
HOLISTIC FAMILY MINISTRY
We are committed to strengthening kids, students, and families, equipping them to grow in faith and live for Christ together.
UNRELENTING FAITH
We are faith-filled, big-thinking, bet-the-farm risk takers, never insulting God with small thinking or safe living.
REAL LOVE IN ACTION
We live out Christ’s love by compassionately serving others, showing grace, and creating a safe space for healing and restoration.
COURAGEOUS COMMITMENT
We take bold, obedient steps of faith, trusting God to do the extraordinary in and through our church.
HOPE FOR ALL PEOPLE
We are a grace-filled church where everyone can find a fresh start and purpose in Jesus Christ, offering hope to the hurting and lost.
OUR HISTORY
Riding the Waves of
God's Spirit since 1875
We exist to urgently lead people to say “yes” to Jesus and his purposes for their lives.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22 | Psalm 90:2 | Matthew 28:19 | 1 Peter 1:2 | 2 Corinthians 13:14
Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates man from God.
Genesis 1:27 | Psalm 8:3-6 | Isaiah 53:6a | Romans 3:23 | Isaiah 59:1,2
Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with him is eternal life. Heaven and hell are places of eternal existence.
John 3:16 | John 2:25 | Romans 6:23 | Revelation 20:15 | 1 John 5:11-13 | Matthew 25:31-46
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Matthew 1:22,23 | Isaiah 9:6 | John 1:1-5, 14:10-30 | Hebrews 4:14,15 | 1 Corinthians 15:3,4 | Romans 1:3,4 | Acts 1:9-11 | 1 Timothy 6:14,15 | Titus 2:13
Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
Romans 6:23 | Ephesians 2:8,9 | John 14:6, 1:12 | Titus 3:5 | Galatians 3:26 | Romans 5:1
Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.
John 10:29 | 2 Timothy 1:12 | Hebrews 7:25; 10:10,14 | 1 Peter 1:3-5
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under his control daily.
2 Corinthians 3:17 | John 16:7-13, 14:16,17 | Acts 1:8 | 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16 | Ephesians 1:13 | Galatians 5:25 | Ephesians 5:1
The Bible is God’s Word to all mankind. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.
2 Timothy 3:16 | 2 Peter 1:20,21 | 2 Timothy 1:13 | Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6 | Proverbs 30:5
Marriage and sexual intimacy are wonderful gifts from God to be stewarded for his glory. God’s design for marriage is to be between one man and one woman for life. Biblical marriage requires that both people have biological differences from birth as male and female. Any sexual relationship or activity outside of biblical, covenanted marriage is sinful, and is not blessed by God. While marriage is a gift from God, we also believe that singleness can be a gift from God and can be God’s call on a person’s life.
Genesis 2:23–24 | Leviticus 18:22 | Matthew 15:19–20 | Matthew 19:5–6 | Romans 1:26–27 | 1 Corinthians 6:18 | 1 Corinthians 7:7–9 | 1 Timothy 1:9–10 | Hebrews 13:4
